Kayak Paddling

My favorite podcast at this point is Half Size Me. Heather Robertson posts new episodes to iTunes and Stitcher Radio every week. I have listened to them all and I always look forward to get the latest. This week, I’ve been re –listening to some of the old podcast. I always pick up things I didn’t catch the first time I listen.  Yesterday morning I heard an analogy that Heather gave that resonated with me. She talks about being in a kayak paddling towards a buoy. The buoy is like the short term goal and getting back to shore is the ultimate goal. Well, to reach the buoy, you have to paddle. In a sense, each stroke paddle is like a step you have to do to get to the buoy.

So, I've chosen my shoreline and set my buoys...  My ultimate goal is to lose 60 lbs in 2013.  The buoys are 15 lbs out and there are 3 of them plus returning to shore. I've got a year, so 15 lbs every quarter, that's 5 lbs a month, 1.2 lb a week for average.  Totally realistic and doable.

Well, what are the paddle strokes I have to take to reach my the buoys? They are the same steps I need to take to get my ultimate goal.

Follow my nutrition plan
Control binges
Exercise minimum 30 mins, 5 times week
Drink plenty of water
Get 8hrs of good sleep every night
Reduce stress exposure
Attend weekly WW meetings

Seems simple enough. I like being able to visualize using the kayak / buoy / shore. Just need to keep paddling!
