I cannot believe it is already 1/31/15! I've been soooo freakin busy with work! This is my first weekend off in a very long time, and I'm making it a 3 day one! I told my boss that I absolutely refuse to work this weekend. Hey, my promotion already went into affect. I feel it was safe to speak my mind. I'm sick of work and need some time away. Nothing wrong with that! I'll be back on Monday!
I took yesterday off because it was my 48th birthday. I always like to take this day off and do something physical. This year I swam 48 laps, 2400 yards. Then I stopped at my favorite coffee place, Dutch Bros Coffee, and got me a free med coffee (my punch card was full), and then went home to an empty house. I spent the rest of the day in my recliner watching the big screen (usually my kids TV). I've been so into Grey's Anatomy on Netflix, so I binged watched for about 4 hrs. It was awesome!! My family came home and then we went out to dinner. My Mom & Dad then came over for cake and ice cream.
I woke up this morning feeling a little queasy from all the sugar, but I still pushed myself to the Desert Classic 5k. It was overcast, but not too cold like previous years. It did not rain. The weather was actually perfect.. in the 60's. I managed to skim some time of last years time, but not a lot. But at least I wasn't slower. Actually finished in 42:38 with a 13:41 pace. I really want to get under 13 min pace before Ragnar in May.
So, the holidays and work were tough for me and I managed to gain 10 lbs since Nov. I maintained my weight for most of 2014, but lost it in the end. I'm motivated to get it off and more in the next 3 months. My focus now is on calories, but I still tend to go towards the lower carb range. I've been so inspired by Tom Venudo and Leigh Peele. I'm also hooked on a new podcast, Jay Scott's Full Disclosure. OK, I just love him... like in the Chris Powell way. He is similar in that he often appears on his local news to talk about fitness. I just got caught up on all his episodes - 76 of them. He also has videos on YouTube. His approach is very much like Venudo and Peele... it's all about the calories. You have to have a deficit in order to lose fat! It's that simple. I've been so caught up in the dogma of low carb / keto for so long. It's refreshing to take on a more simplistic approach. I'd like to get 25 lbs off my May. Totally doable! I'm shooting for a calorie range of 1400-1500 plus getting 3-4 days of running and 2 days of weights. I'll sprinkle in spin and swim here and there, but my focus is on the running. I'm getting in 3 miles per workout on the treadmill during the week before work and then longer runs outside on the weekend. I also mapped out 5k, 4 milers, and 10k events for the 1st quarter.
Our plans for Ragnar are coming along. We recently had a conference call with the team and picked out our distances. I'll run a little over 4, then a little over 3, then a little over 4 miles over the 2 day event. The challenge will be doing it around the clock while living out of a van. After the event, my sister and I will be travelling to our home town of Salem, Ma. So excited!! Lot's to get ready for in the next few months!
