Freedom Run 5K Recap

The Freedom Run 5K last Saturday was HOT!  It was damn hot and humid!  There was no cloud cover what's so ever! The race didn't start until 7:30am and I was so crampy!  Needless to say I did not have a superior run, but I did complete the race.

I pushed it the first mile and was pretty happy with my pace of 12:29, but then I just kind of gave up and had an overall pace of 14:22.  Really want to get under 14! I was disappointed because I want to see improvement race over race and it just didn't happen this time.  Oh well, time to prepare for the next event on October!

Last week I started to notice that my blood glucose #s were climbing and I was falling out of ketosis. My food intake hadn't changed, so I was a bit irritated.  I'm usually in the 80's when I come home from work and I was in the high 90's and even hit 107 one day.  What the heck!   I was listening to Living La Vida Low Carb last Friday when I heard Jackie Eberstein talk about how women can fall out of ketosis just before and during menstruation.  She even advised her clients to not test for ketosis during this time. I guess I never really noticed this before or maybe it is just now starting for me.  It's making me rethink this whole ketosis thing.. do I really want to keep striving for keto adaptation? Maybe just being low carb is good enough. Do I really want to keep obsessing over my blood numbers? So I'm taking a bit of a break from my obsession....

Also, I broke my streak of tracking on MFP.  I was up to 27 days, which was BIG for me, and then Sunday I just forgot to track.  I grabbed my phone to enter the food on Monday, but it was too late.  My streak was broken.  It bothered me for a little, ok most of the day, but then I realized I can't let things like this get to me.  It's not about counting the # of days binge free, tracking, or in ketosis.  It's about living everyday the best that I can. I know what I need to eat to feel good and in control.  It's not sugar and it's not grains. I know how awesome I feel after a workout - even a 'bad' race.  And it is not difficult for me to eat clean or get up to workout!  I kind of like it!  I have 111 days left of 2014 and it's time to enjoy and make the most of each and every one of them!
