Rio Vista 4 Miler # 2

Sunday was my second of three 4 milers of my summer series races.  I was really hoping to beat my last time from May 18th, but it didn’t happen.  I felt really good at the start too and I thought I would break the 14 min mile pace.  The first mile was great – 20 seconds better than the last and I almost broke the 12 min mile pace.  I felt strong.. I know my workouts have been helping.   But after about a mile and a half, I started to wonder where the water stations were located. By the time I hit the 2nd mile marker, I was pissed.. they did not have enough water stations for a 4 mile run, in Arizona, in June!  Seriously!  I assumed (yes I know) that there would be one around 1.5 and then maybe around mile 3.  Then I started to panic a little.  I wanted to push hard to better my time, but then I was afraid I would over do it and it would not be pretty. My pace fell to over 14 and then to over 15.  There was a water station just after mile 3, so I was a little less anxious about not finishing.  As I crossed the finished line, I could see my overall pace was 14:07.  Not the sub 14 I wanted!  I was so disappointed. I felt deflated.. but then I felt sick.  I was dehydrated!  It wasn’t until I uploaded my data to Garmin Connect later that day that I started to give myself a break.  Sure, I did not reach my goal, but I was only 6 seconds per mile slower… 30 seconds more than my overall time last month. Not bad considering the conditions.

So, my fuel belt is on board for my training runs and I will be wearing it for the 4th of July 4 miler!  Nothing is going to stop me from reaching my goals!!
