To Be or Not To Be

So, now that we are in 2014, there are several things I'm striving to BE:

Be Patient - I've been on this journey for a long time.. it doesn't matter if it takes me 14 or 20 years to get to goal.  What matters is that I am learning about and practicing a more healthier lifestyle.

Be Honest - Being honest with myself triggered something inside me this past summer.  I faced the fact that I have an addiction to sugar and I did something about it.  I've never felt this kind of peace with food before.  It's awesome!!

Be Kind - Being mean takes too much bad energy.  It doesn't take much to be kind and it feels pretty good.

Be Hydrated - Water, Water, Water - it carriers away the fat.

Be Motivated - I love it when I'm motivated!  Sometimes it just takes reading a running magazine or watching a tri video.  I actually have several videos on my iPod Classic - including the past 4 years of the Ironman Kona.

Be a Good Role Model - I love it when my girls ask 'Are you going to the gym in the morning' or 'What can I eat for a healthy breakfast'.  They are watching!

Be Active - I so want to work on this in 2014! I have a desk job, so I sit a lot!  I have been measuring my lack of activity on my BMB this week and I will be looking to increase this every week going forward.

Be Alert - Being on a Keto diet helps with this Be.  The mental clarity is amazing!

Be Realistic - I will never do an Ironman, 1/2 Ironman, or Full Marathon.  I will never wear a bikini. I will not get to goal in a month.

Be Forgiving - Mostly for me - forgive myself when I drift off track!

Be Rested - sleep is so important!  It really sets the tone for my day.  If I have a restless night, I will allow myself to skip a morning workout every now and then to catch a few more Zzzzz's.

Be Educated - I have learned so much about nutrition over the past couple of years.  My learning will never stop.

Be Consistent - with my eating, exercising, meal planning, and tracking!

Be in Control - I love the feeling I have being in control of my eating.  I feel so empowered!

Be Inspirational - I love reading inspiration stories!  I want nothing more than to be able to pay it forward and maybe inspire others.

Be Fearless - Don't let fear prevent me from having adventures!  I have this ridiculous fear of open water - especially the ocean.  Ironic because I lived on the coast until I was 25, swam and sailed all the time when I was a kid, became certified in SCUBA, and even majored in Marine Biology for the first 2 years of college.  But one too many Shark Week's did me in.  I live in the desert, so it's not like I'm confronted all that often, but giving the next opportunity, I just need to dive in!

Be Experimental - I love Jimmy Moore's N=1 experiments (http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/n1).  This is when you are the N=1 and you experiment with different things.  All of our journeys are different.  We need to find things that work for us.  Some of the things I want to try this year are intermittent fasting, burning brown fat, standing vs sitting at work, more intense interval training, exercising in a fasted state, and many more...

Be Analytical - this is key for my in 2014.  This is my profession in life so it only makes sense that I would bring it in to my journey.  If it can't be measured, it can't be fixed.  Well, I'll be measuring everything this year thanks to my toys - Body Media Band, Garmin for running, Garmin for swimming, bike computer, body weight and measurements, blood glucose and ketone leves.  I'm big into charts and graphs to analyze my progress.

Be Happy - Needs no explanation!  I am already!

So I welcomed in 2014 by getting up at 4:30am on Wednesday, 1/1  to hit the fitness center at work.  It was a company holiday, but the New Year is our crazy busy time with new benefits hitting the pharmacies, so I have to, need to, want to work.   I had the whole gym to myself!  I know it's not going to stay this way for long.  I'll be fighting for the machines later this week.  I grabbed a selfie while I could...
