So on to the next event, the Running for the Bulls 4 miler at my favorite venue, Rio Vista Park in Peoria, AZ. This was my 4th time doing this venue this year and I am proud to say I PR'd it! It may have something to do with my training, but more to do with what I was running from. When I signed up for the event, I only paid attention to where it was, not what charity it was supporting. Well, come to find out this morning, it was a pet charity and the Bulls referred to Pit Bulls. Now, I'm not a dog hater, but not really a lover either. I'm allergic and usually have an asthma attack if I go near dogs. Runners were encouraged to bring their dogs. I was a bit anxious at first and even sprinted my fastest pace (8:00 ) for a few seconds to get ahead of the pack. I had a great 1st mile (12:00) and even PRd the 5k distance at 41:16 ( 13:17). I also PRd the 4 miles at 53:41 (13:28). I got over my anxiety with the Pit Bulls and really saw them for what they are - beautiful, loving, family members. Sunday, October 5, 2014
Running for the Bulls
Where did Sept go? Time has been flying by so fast.
I did have the 25 mile charity ride scheduled for last week, but I skipped it. For one, it was forecasted to rain, even though it did not rain until after the event. And second, I had my first tire blowout on my mountain bike the week before. Although I was going to be riding my road bike, I think the whole thing just freaked me out. I've had flats before, but never a blowout. It was a good thing there were no cars on the road because I lost control and ended up in the middle. Fortunately, I was not going all that fast. So instead of the ride, I decided to go to Spin class and then swim laps at the gym. I had more fun doing this and now it is a regular thing - Spin & Swim Saturdays!
