Oh What a Feeling!

It is such a great feeling to kick ass against fear!  I was so afraid of doing an open water tri, but am no more! I faced my fear of cold, murky lake water.  I got kicked, rammed into, and swam into slower swimmers.  I did it all with confidence - I can do this, and I did.  I was out of the water after 13 mins from the wave start.  Not bad..

Me just before the 6:30 am start

My fear of the cold was gone the minute I saw most athletes not wearing wet suits. The water temp was 74 degrees at the start... not bad at all.  I had a harder time getting into water aerobics class this April.  After the 1st buoy, I kept sight of the next one and just swam and swam and swam.  I actually enjoyed the swim with the exception of not being able to see under water.  I could not see the others until we were bumping into one another.  That part I did not like.. competing in a pool is so much better.

My wave - that's my arm on the right!! My sister is in the red and black suit.

The bike was much shorter then my other tri's - just 6.5 miles, but it was hilly - ugh.  The run was a nice short 1.6 miles around the lake.  I beat my sister in the swim and the bike, but she caught up with me a mile in the run.  We ran in together through the finish line, which was really nice, and collected our bling.

Oh the bling... icing on the top!

Will I do it again?  I think so...  I definitely prefer the pool tri's, but there was something swimming in the open that was appealing.  My sister was not happy with her swim and wants to do it next year, so I will probably do it with her.

Last tri of my Spring season is next week.  Then I will put my bike away for the summer so I can focus on my running.  But, I will continue to swim because I LOVE IT!
