Phoenix 10K -Race Recap

The Phoenix 10k is one of my favorite races!  I love it because we get to run up and down Central Ave with no traffic.  Sunday was beautiful too!  The temps were in the upper 50's when I first got down there and low 60's during the run.  There was a slight breeze and it was a bit overcast, so no sun to worry about. Nice flat course too! It is extremely well organized too.. plenty of water, food, portable potties.... the essentials!!

I did the race by myself because my sister just had to go to Vegas for the weekend.  I was actually very anxious when I first got there.. I don't know if it was the increased distance or what, but I have not had butterflies like that in a long time.  It was like it was my first race or something. I just walked around before the start and then I was fine.

I wanted to break into the 13's for my min mile pace, but I ended up with an overall pace of 14:06.  But I felt great.  I ran the 1st mile in 12:26 and then did the run walk thing the rest of the way.  I was surprised by some of my sprints, especially at the end when I hit the pace of 5:57.  I don't think I ever ran that fast, even if it was for just a few seconds.  There was one new song on my playlist that I kept listening to over and over too..  Come with Me Now by the Kongos.. OMG did that get me going!!
