Rio Vista is a popular area for running events. This map of the 4 Miler is very deceiving because it appears we run along a river... well it is, but it is a dry river bed. No water here! Just a lot of shrubs and weeds. We run up and down small hills along the bank, so it is more of a challenge than the other flat venues I run.

I ran the 4 Miler today and I have the same course on 6/19 and 7/4. I want to compare my runs to see if I see any improvement over the next 6 weeks or so. I have my results from last years 4th of July run, so it was interesting to compare last year to today's. My pace overall was 32 sec faster and my splits show improvement - especially my 1st mile.
I really want to improve on my pace and endurance this summer. It will be a challenge because it is frigin HOT in AZ! Today was not bad at all at 73 degrees, but it will not be long until the temps are in the 90's or even low 100's at these early morning events.
Today's event was put on by a new company called Start Line Racing. It's competing with the organization I belong to, Arizona Road Racing. They did not draw the crowd ARR does, but they put on an excellent event. They had plenty of water stations and gave out Bling! ARR is going to need to step up if they want to compete.
